What is a Facelift?
As the face ages, the cheeks fall and the neck skin becomes loose. Those lines around the mouth get deeper and jowls may appear along your jaw line. A face lift tightens the skin of neck and jaw. It corrects loose skin in the neck and restores a more youthful appearance to the face. A face lift can also reduce the appearance of the folds around the mouth (nasolabial folds).

How is a Facelift Performed?
During your facelift, or rhytidectomy, the incision is hidden in the hairline and in the crease in front of the ear. The skin is pulled taught but not tight, allowing excess skin to be removed. The fibrous layer of tissue under the skin, called the SMAS, is also pulled taught. This increases the power of the lift and improves the long-term results. If you have loose muscles in the neck, another incision that is hidden under the chin is used to tighten these muscles.
How Do I Know if a Face Lift is Right for Me?
If you are unhappy with loose, hanging skin and deep wrinkles, you may be the perfect candidate for a face lift. A face lift will not, however, fix fine wrinkles in the skin. If that is the case, you may need a dermal filler, improved skin care regimen, or facial peel to reduce fine wrinkles and enhance the overall result of a face lift.

What Type of Post-Operative Face Lift Care Can I Expect?
Recovery following a face lift typically lasts about two weeks. Three days after your surgery, we will remove your original face lift dressing. Sutures are removed at one week. You can expect minimal edema and bruising that will last for one to two weeks.
