Columbia, MD Residents Ask: Is Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery Painful?

Brazilian Butt Lift (Fat Transfer) Near Washington DCWe often hear the phrase “kill two birds with one stone,” and few things embody the essence of this idiom like the Brazilian Butt Lift. This procedure combines the best of both worlds. It works by taking fat cells from unwanted areas and using them to help plump and lift your butt.

In theory, this all sounds great, but many prospective patients want to know more about the ins and outs of the procedure. Fortunately, we’ve compiled all the information you need right here.

What is a Brazilian Butt Lift Like?

The first step of the Brazilian butt lift procedure involves using liposuction to remove fat from the chosen area, usually the hips, abdomen, thighs, or lower back. Once the fat is extracted, it will be processed, purified, and prepared for transfer. Then, Dr. Banks will inject the fat into specific points around the buttocks to increase shape and volume.

Typically an outpatient procedure, the Brazilian butt lift is often performed using general anesthesia or a combination of local and intravenous anesthesia. The risk of complications is quite low considering that the material being implanted is already native to the patient’s body. This also leads to a more natural look and feel than traditional butt implants.

What is Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery Like?

Recovering from a butt lift requires adhering to some particular restrictions given to you by your surgeon. Typically, pain is minimal and easily managed with medication. However, due to the location of the operation, patients will not be able to lie or sit directly on their buttocks for a period of up to two weeks.

It will be recommended that patients lie on their stomachs or sides in lieu of utilizing their backside for sitting or sleeping. Once healing has progressed, the patient will graduate to modified sitting—usually with the assistance of a “donut” or special pillow. One may return to work within 10 to 14 days after surgery and can resume normal sitting habits after about 8 weeks.

Results are typically final after about six months and they should last for many years to come. It is recommended that patients attempt to maintain a steady weight and avoid any drastic fluctuations that could negatively affect both the buttocks and the site of fat removal. Adhering to recovery recommendations will ensure that patients maintain the integrity of their new, fuller posterior.
