Kybella vs Neck Lift: Neck Tightening

kybella-image (1)When it comes to fighting back against wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging, you may be focusing too much on your face – and not enough on your neck.

Thanks to its thinner skin and propensity for repetitive movements, the neck is often one of the first places that can show your true age.  As collagen and elastin begin to break down, repeated motions and movements can begin to create lines across the neck.  What’s more, this loss of elasticity can create sag, which can result in an unwanted phenomenon known as “turkey neck.”

Fortunately, there are unique ways to treat an aging neck; let’s explore two of those treatments now.

Kybella or a Neck Lift?

If you’re on the hunt for a tighter and more youthful-looking neck, you may have heard of Kybella before.  This treatment uses a chemical solution that’s designed to dissolve unwanted fat in your neck – all without needing liposuction or other invasive surgeries.  Kybella can be a good option for patients who are concerned about contouring their jawlines or achieving a slimmer face. However, Kybella will not help those who’s skin is drooping too far, much like Botox or fillers won’t help those in need of a facelift.

If you want to treat sagging and eliminate those stubborn neck wrinkles, nothing beats the results achieved from a traditional neck lift.

Only a neck lift gives a plastic surgeon the ability to pull back muscles and sagging skin, giving your neck and jawline a tighter and more lifted appearance.  During the neck lift procedure, your surgeon will make an incision under your chin or behind your ears, giving her access to neck muscles.  Once your desired results have been achieved, your surgeon will hold the results in place with sutures and remove any excess skin.

What’s more, a neck lift can be combined with other procedures for truly astounding results.  Many patients often opt for eyelid surgery or a facelift, along with their neck lift.

The best candidates for a neck lift should be in excellent health, understand his or her recovery time, and have reasonable expectations for the desired results of the surgery.
